Looks like a registry change is needed or something for XP to recognize the card beyond “unknown network adapter”.

Find the model number on the wireless card itself, use the Linksys support pagedownload the correct drivers, put them on the XP Desktop, unplug the wireless card, reboot XP, shut it down, put the card back wundows, turn on XP, and watch for a balloon notification at boot up saying it is attempting to install the new hardware. He no longer has the setup CD.
